I woke up to a freezing morning, with fresh snow blanketing the ground and a cold breeze sweeping through the valley. The temperature hovered around 6°C. The mountains were hidden under a thick layer of snow, and it felt like all my plans for the day had been wiped out by the heavy snowfall and strong winds. Even taking my dog for a walk seemed out of the question—it was just too cold.

As the day went on and I stayed bundled up inside, I found myself reflecting on what truly matters. After hours of hibernation, I had a simple but brilliant idea: a warm shower. I drove down to a camping site at the base of the mountain and asked if I could use their facilities. It wasn’t cheap, but I decided to treat myself.

The moment the hot water hit my skin and the first rays of sunlight broke through the clouds, I felt an unexpected wave of joy. That shower was pure bliss—an everyday miracle. It’s funny how easily we forget the magic of simple pleasures until we’re reminded like this.

Recharged and feeling more alive, I headed back—only to receive a message from a friend inviting me for a short hike.

We ended up at the foot of the Ferpècle Glacier, surrounded by towering pine trees, rushing alpine rivers, and fresh snowfall. To be walking along the edge of a glacier in the middle of summer, with snow falling like confetti in a Christmas scene, was surreal. The fog and low visibility didn’t take away from the experience; if anything, they added to the mystique. The peaks remained hidden, but the atmosphere was dreamlike—almost sacred.

After that unforgettable hike, we descended into the Rhône Valley, where we were met with a sharp contrast—sunshine and nearly 30°C warmth. I cooked a simple vegan dinner by the river, grateful and content.

It was a day of contrasts and unexpected gifts—cold and warmth, solitude and friendship, snow and sunshine. A perfect reminder that even on the most uncertain days, something magical can unfold.
